What’s happening
Connecting smart contracts to the world via secure oracles is catapulting the world to becoming more trusted, accountable, and robust with smart contracts. Whether it's receiving off-chain market data to trigger your DeFi smart contract or simply getting the weather for today on-chain, the range of possible applications that Chainlink opens is limitless.
And we are spending a month to help you be part of the history of that fourth industrial revolution.
We are hosting a Chainlink Hackathon from September 7th to September 27th, 2020 and invite everyone and anyone from around the world to participate.

What is Chainlink?
Chainlink is a decentralized oracle network that enables smart contracts to securely access off-chain data feeds, web APIs, and traditional bank payments. You can currently get pre-boxed, easy to deploy code for pricing data. If you’re looking for specific flavors of data, you can simply add your API call to your solidity. Chainlink also has functionality for provably random numbers to build any type of blockchain based game requiring RNG, ticketing system, or the like.
Creativity is your only limiting factor.
Simply put, Chainlink empowers your smart contracts with any data source you can think of. This connection allows us to build decentralized, immutable, secure, and reliable applications.
2. Is there a community?
With direct access to some of the top projects, engineers, and minds in the world, you will be able to connect and form teams with other talented engineers. Receive support from experienced blockchain developers who can help you bring your project idea to life.
If you’re a veteran engineer, you can compete for some fantastic prizes. If you’re just entering the space, you can enter your project to be rewarded with a course from Dapp University.
3. Dedicated Support
To help you maximize the success of your projects, we will provide participants with direct access to team members and experienced mentors, a plethora of educational materials for learning about off-chain connectivity, live workshops showcasing how to use Chainlink and much more. Join our hackathon Discord to meet other hackers and start planning today!
We also encourage you to use the latest Chainlink resources such as the popular Defi reference data sets for popular asset price pairs, and Chainlink VRFto implement verifiable random functionality into your smart contracts, Dapps, and NFT projects.
If you want to #BuildWithChainlink, follow the link below to sign-up and get registered. Let’s together showcase how connected smart contracts can achieve real adoption and change the world!
Getting StartedWe have a massive list of resources for you to start building! https://docs.chain.link/docs/hackathon-resources
You're welcome to use any tools you like! Ethereum, Tezos, Avalanche, Substrate, Polkadot, Solidity, Smartpy, and more!
Eligibility
- Teams must have no more than 4 hackers
- No geographic restrictions on hackers
Requirements
Submissions should include
- A project description (approximately 200 words)
- 5 minute video demo
- A link to GitHub/GitLab/code repository
- Optional: a link to a working demo
To qualify for the Chainlink prizes
- You must successfully use Chainlink oracles/price feeds, and the data fetched by the oracle must trigger a state change in the smart contract.
- Your entry must abide by the overall hackathon rules.
- While you may plan ahead of time, all code for your project must be written during the event.
- You cannot steal another team’s source code, and you must certify that all code and presentations you submit are your own work.
For sponsorship prizes, to be eligible for their prizes you must use the technology mentioned in the prizes section. If you're unsure if you qualify, please reach out to their sponsorship channel in the discord.
Prizes
$59,250 in prizes
Grand Prize Winner
$8,000 in LINK to the Grand Prize winner! This is the best overall project taking into account all the judging criteria.
Runner up
(12)
$500 in LINK to 10 awesome projects that built something stellar!
Best DeFi Project
$4,000 in LINK to the project that built the most amazing decentralized finance project.
Chainlink price feeds and every other application are a great tools to use to apply to this award.
Best Gaming/NFT Project
$4,000 in LINK to the project that has the best application in the gaming or NFT space.
Chainlink VRFs are a great tool for this category.
Best Open Project
$4,000 in LINK to the project where anything goes!
You could build a defi project, build out some infrastructure, build a totally wild blockchain that uses Chainlink oracles, anything goes for this category!
Aave Prize
(2)
Up to $5,000 in aUSDC to the project that utilizes the Aave protocol the best!
ENS Prize
(5)
Your dApp isn't finished without ENS!
Five prizes of $150 to the projects that utilize ENS the best!
Gelato Prize
(3)
$500, $400, and then $300 to the three best projects that automate their smart contract executions with Gelato.
Gelato came from a hackathon, and now they are sponsoring a prize!
AMPL Prize
(3)
Up to 3 projects will win $1,000 for the best use of AMPL token and AMPL technology!
DappU Prize
(2)
Are you new to the blockchain space but want to still try to build something?
This is for the blockchain and engineering rookie that wants to win a prize to learn how to be a blockchain MASTER with Gregory from DappU!
The Graph Prize
(2)
The Graph is offering two bounties of $1,500 each for two different categories for subgraphs built during this hackathon.
The first is the the best new subgraph and the second is the best new subgraph used as an oracle. In the event you subgraph Chainlink Oracle data, you are eligible to receive both The Graph's bounty as well as Chainlink's bounty.
A great example of this is Melon's Chainlink subgraph built a few weeks ago that used the graph for on-chain data + chainlink off-chain data, any other chainlink oracle data to index.
CryptoChicks Prize
(2)
If you build on top of Aave or Portis and would like to enter the CryptoChicks hatchery, submit here!
This prize offers you a chance to enter the CryptoChick hatchery - a blockchain incubator designed to help you take your hackathon project -> to a full scale business!
At the end of the hatchery, one project from this hackathon who also enters the incubator will receive $2,000!
Polkadot Grand Prize
For the best project built with with substrate, or project built on top of Polkadot or the Kusama network.
75% of the $5,000 available without a chainlink integration, and the additional 25% with the integration.
Polkadot Runner Up
For the best project built with with substrate, or project built on top of Polkadot or the Kusama network.
75% of the $3,000 available without a chainlink integration, and the additional 25% with the integration.
Tezos Defi Winner
Up to $2,000 to the project that builds something amazing on the Tezos platform!
